Claudia & Garrett, personal finance enthusiasts and future tiny-house dwellers who won the fight against lifestyle inflation and debt. Hikers. Campers. Cat parents.
Our blog discusses minimalism, tiny houses, personal finance, and the path to financial independence.
What started as a silly idea somehow took hold in our brains: tiny living. We’ve taken what may seem like drastic measures to fight lifestyle inflation and pay off debt. We downsized our home in 2015, but it’s just one of the many steps we see as necessary to become debt free and achieve financial independence.
TL;DR: The 30,000 ft View
#1 Eliminate ALL debt and waste.
#2 Side hustle like crazy!
#3 Achieve financial independence.
That’s it. Well, maybe that’s not the entire story, but it’s enough for now.
Why did we start this blog anyway?
We’re merging two topics we’ve become incredibly passionate about: tiny living and personal finance. For us, the two go together like peanut butter and jelly.
By downsizing our housing expenses, we paid off all of our debt faster, which helps us achieve financial independence faster. It’s a story, a journey, a process we started sharing with others. By sharing our journey, we’ve been able to connect with like-minded individuals!
Where did the idea of financial independence originate?
Could it have been all of these stories of people retiring early that Yahoo! News seems to publish weekly?
Was it when we realized our mortgage payments weren’t getting us anywhere in paying off our mortgage?
Could it have been the thousands we invested in 1,500 sq ft of home “improvement” that consumed our disposable income that finally made us realize enough is enough?!
I think our blog posts have revealed even more sources of FI motivation that weren’t apparent when we kicked off this endeavor.
When did the housing downsizing fun begin?
April 7, 2015…we put our 1,500 sq ft house on the market and started selling all of our stuff.
Today, we live in a 536 sq ft house.
What’s life like in a 536 sq ft small house?
Our Real Talk series of blog posts do just that…keep it real…
When does construction start for Two Cup House?
Soon-ish, maybe? Follow up on Facebook and Instagram for some of the ideas we’re putting together for the 200 sq ft tiny house (aka Two Cup House).
And if you want to know what “two cups” we’re referring to, check out this blog post.
What about debt? How’s that going?
As of March 2017, we’re 100% debt free. Here’s a complete recap of the two-year journey to debt freedom.
